The International Cricket Council is under the scanner for its decision to organise the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 matches in New York. The pitches used in the first two games have been unfit for T20 cricket. The track on which India played its campaign opener against Ireland was dangerous. The batters were hit, leading to their safety concerns.
India captain Rohit Sharma was hit on the shoulder during his fifty-plus knock and he left the field midway. Rishabh Pant took a couple of blows on his hand before closing the game in India’s favour.
Irfan Pathan, Ravi Shastri, Wasim Jaffer, Michael Vaughan and others slammed the apex body for the quality of the pitches in the ongoing global tournament.
However, Jasprit Bumrah refused to blame the pitch and instead urged the players to get used to the conditions. He was named the Player of the Match for taking two wickets in his team’s victory by 8 wickets.
“When you come here and the ball is seaming around with bounce and pace, I would never complain. You have to be proactive as you can’t preempt things. You have to see the wicket and then go back to what works for you. Once the seam goes down, the pitch also settles down. You have to be prepared to bowl in any conditions,” he said on Star Sports.
India bowled out Ireland for 96 runs, with Hardik Pandya taking three wickets.
