Jasprit Bumrah dethroned his India National Cricket Team teammate Ravichandran Ashwin from the top spot in the ICC Test Rankings for Bowlers. The speedster is the new number one bowler in the longest format of the game.
Despite Bumrah and Ashwin taking 11 wickets each in the two-Test series against Bangladesh, the pacer managed to surpass the off-spinner.
In the recently updated rankings, Bumrah has 870 rating points while Ashwin, who is in second place, is on 869 points. Josh Hazlewood (847), Pat Cummins (820) and Kagiso Rabada (820) are in the third, fourth and the fifth spots.
In the ICC Test Rankings for batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal is in third place. His two back-to-back fifties in the second Test against Bangladesh helped him in climbing two places. The southpaw has 792 rating points.
Surprisingly, Virat Kohli, who had an ordinary series against the Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team, has moved to number six in the world.
Virat registered just 6 and 17 in the first game in Chennai while he amassed an unbeaten 47 in the only innings he batted in the second contest. Kohli had dropped down to 12th place last week but managed to make significant progress after the conclusion of the two red-ball games. The 35-year-old has 724 rating points.
Joe Root (899) and Kane Williamson 829) are the top two batters. Steve Smith (757) and Usman Khawaja (728), the two Aussie stars, are in the fourth and the fifth positions.
Meanwhile, Ashwin and Bumrah will now play in the three-Test series against New Zealand.
