Nasser Hussain has lashed out at the Pakistan management for dropping Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah for the remaining two Tests against England. The hosts lost the opening game by an innings and 47 runs in Multan.
Babar scored 35 runs, while Shaheen took 1 wicket. Naseem dismissed two batters as England posted 823/7. Pakistan amassed 556 and 220 across both innings. The new selection panel took strict action and removed star players.
“The issue is not Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, or Naseem Shah. The main problem is how Pakistan cricket is managed from behind the scenes. I read somewhere that Pakistan has 26 or 27 different selectors. England had just two or three in a long time. If you keep changing captains, coaches, and selectors, the results will not come. It is impossible to plan,” he said on SKY Sports.
“The successful business or sports team can’t function like that. When you have short-term planning in place, you turn up unprepared, and by the time you are defeated in the first Test, you start searching for solutions,” he added.
Shan Masood has lost six consecutive Test captains. Nasser Hussain also highlighted the financial struggles of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
“The big three are financially sound, and Pakistan is left to pick up scraps like other nations. I really feel for their cricket, and we must not go harsh on them, but they shoot themselves in the foot at times.”
The second Test between the two teams will be played in Multan on October 15.
