Team India’s stand-in T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has earned high praise from T20 superstar Chris Gayle. Gayle describes him as a “phenomenal player” with a promising future. Known for his explosive batting in T20 cricket, he expressed his admiration for Yadav ahead of India’s three-T20I series against South Africa.
Yadav, who holds the top spot in the ICC rankings for batters, is not only a key figure in the team but also a dynamic batsman. With a remarkable strike rate of 171.71 and an average of 44.11 in 58 T20Is, he has proven his prowess in the shortest format of the game.
In an interview on Star Sports, Gayle couldn’t help but commend Yadav’s skills.
“I’m at a loss for words, he’s simply outstanding. His shots cover almost every part of the ground, truly fantastic. He has an impressive strike rate and is a skilled player. As I mentioned earlier, he’s destined for a bright future”, Gayle said,
Despite being in the early stages of his career, Gayle emphasized the importance of consistency for a player like Suryakumar Yadav. The West Indian cricketing icon highlighted Yadav’s phenomenal talent, describing it as “unbelievable.”
Reflecting on Yadav’s playing style, Gayle noted the challenge for bowlers to strategize against him.
“It’s hard to put into words. I’m confident that bowlers struggle to figure out how to bowl to him because he’s like a complete 360 player. Bowlers will find it challenging to plan their strategy against him, deciding which areas to target and trying to restrict him. As I mentioned, he’s truly exceptional.” Gayle added.
India and South Africa will play the upcoming T20I series in Durban, Gqeberha, and Johannesburg, followed by a transition to a three-ODI series and two Tests.
