Indian players are finding it hard to deal with a 0-3 Test series defeat against New Zealand. It was the first time in the history of Indian cricket that a team lost all the games in a series comprising three red-ball matches. Ravichandran Ashwin has opened up about the experience of ending up on the losing side at home.
The legendary spinner was completely off-color against the Kiwis and made no enormous contributions with the ball and bat. Ashwin feels he was also one of the reasons behind the debacle.
The India National Cricket Team played a catching-up game across departments and couldn’t show their dominance on the seaming track in Bengaluru and turning pitches in Pune and Mumbai.
The series started with an eight-wicket defeat for the hosts. When the fans were expecting a comeback from the home team in the second game, the players were disappointing, and India lost the match by 113 runs. Rohit Sharma’s team failed to chase 147 runs in the third game at the Wankhede Stadium. The visitors clinched the contest by 25 runs.
“It was the most shattering experience in my career. We haven’t been in a similar situation before at home. I felt bad I didn’t know how to react for two-three days after losing the series. I was also a big reson as I couldn’t score runs in the lower order when we suffered a batting collapse,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.
In 6 innings, he scored 51 runs at an average of 8.50. Ashwin took nine wickets in three games at an average of 41.22.
He will now be seen in action in the upcoming five-Test series against Australia.
