India suffered another batting collapse in a Test match, with the batters failing miserably against Australia in Adelaide. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed on the first ball of the second contest by Mitchell Starc, but then KL Rahul and Shubman Gill added 69 runs for the second wicket.
When the two were looking good, Starc scripted India’s downfall with regular wickets. He got rid of Virat Kohli and Gill to put the visitors on the back foot. The remaining players were found wanting, and the team was bowled out for 180 runs.
Starc (6 wickets), Pat Cummins (2 wickets), and Scott Boland ( 2 wickets) were brilliant with the ball.
Former India player Harbhajan Singh feels Virat’s dismissal broke the team’s back.
“Virat Kohli’s wicket broke Team India’s back, and that was the turning point of the first innings. He was not sure, and his indecisiveness proved costly. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill shared a good partnership, but after KL”s departure, India needed runs from Virat, but he failed to contribute,” Harbhajan Singh said.
“He is a big player and I am sure he will comeback strongly,” he added.
Kohli scored a hundred in the second innings of the series opener in Perth, and Adelaide being his favourite ground in Australia, the expectations of another big score were high, but Starc set him up smartly, and the batter was caught by Steve Smith.
Australia lost Usman Khawaja (13) early in the innings but Nathan McSweeney (38) and Marnus Labuschagne (20) took the score to 86/1.
