Mitchell Starc’s eight-wicket match haul helped Australia in winning the second Test against India at the Adelaide Oval. The hosts were clinical in all the departments of the game and registered a 10-wicket win to level the series 1-1. Former Australia player Ricky Ponting thinks Yashasvi Jaiswal could be the reason behind the left-arm seamer’s sensational bowling.
The young southpaw had amassed 161 in the second innings of the series opener and hit some glorious shots on Starc’s bowling. He also sledged the fast bowler, saying he was bowling slow. Although India won the contest by 295 runs. Yashasvi’s words led to the revival of Starc. He dismissed Jaiswal on the first ball of the pink-ball Test and added five more wickets to his tally. He was not done yet and dismissed two batters in the second essay.
Ponting spoke to Sanjana Ganesan on the ICC Review. He feels Jaiswal’s words might have fired up the pacer.
“Starc doesn’t get frustrated easily, and if the batter says something to him, he responds with a smile on his face.
“I think he smiles to cover up the fire burning inside him. He bowled well in Adelaide,” Ricky Ponting said.
Starc has been a match-winner for Australia across formats.
“Starc deserves praise for his consistency. He has become more dangerous in the latter stages of his career. Starc used to touch 150 kmph mark during his early years and now he operates at 140.kmph. But he is far more consistent and bowls wicket to wicket. Starc doesn’t give too many chances to the batters,” Ricky Ponting added.
