Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket in the presence of captain Rohit Sharma. He thanked the BCCI and his teammates for their support throughout his journey and mentioned the names of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara for taking catches on his bowling in the slips. The veteran revealed that he would continue to play club cricket in the future.
Ashwin didn’t take questions from the journalists, with a promise of doing the exercise at a later stage. Rohit, who was sitting next to him, heaped massive praise on a player who he had known since his U-17 days. In a frank discussion, he also gave a hint of the off-spinners new profession.
“Don’t worry, he will be around you people,” indicating to the media persons that Ashwin would wear the commentator’s hat. His line was picked up by Mark Nicholas, who was sitting with Sunil Gavaskar and Matthew Hayden in the box.
“It seems he will enter the broadcasting field,” he said. Ashwin has two YouTube channels and often interacts with fans. His knowledge of the game has been praised by leading cricket experts, and there is a possibility of him donning the hat of a commentator.
Meanwhile, Ashwin will represent Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2025. He hails from Tamil Nadu and has played for the team in the past. CSK bought him for INR 9.75 crore in the mega auction at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
