Ahmed Shehzad emotionally bid goodbye to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after all six franchises excluded him in the 2024 player draft. The Pakistani cricketer expressed his disappointment on X, vowing to reveal the reasons behind his exclusion soon.
In a heartfelt note, Shehzad acknowledged his non-selection. “I never expected to say farewell to the Pakistan Super League this year. I’m sharing my feelings because, once again, I wasn’t selected in this year’s PSL draft. The same recurring tale. God only knows why.”
Despite delivering impressive performances in Karachi’s National T20 Cup, including a solid 60 off 52 balls and a striking 81 off 44 balls, Shehzad found himself overlooked. Despite consistently giving his best in the domestic circuit, the cricketer, who played his last T20I for Pakistan in 2019, expressed frustration at his exclusion.
“I’ve given my all in the domestic circuit for the past few years and performed well in the National T20 Cup right before the PSL draft. It appears there’s a deliberate attempt to exclude me, even when franchises choose players with lesser stats than mine. When everything is pre-planned, it doesn’t make a difference.” he added.
Shehzad hinted at preferential treatment given to players with inferior performance numbers. He emphasized that his exclusion was not based on merit. Despite the setback, he assured his fans and the country that he would soon disclose the reasons behind his PSL snub.
“I’m not sure whose job it is to bring in top domestic performers for the PSL. However, I do know precisely why I haven’t been included in the PSL. The entire country, along with my fans, will soon be aware of it,” he concluded.
He was once hailed as Pakistan’s Virat Kohli because of his looks and talent. However, his inconsistency impacted his career.
