Australia have managed to keep India waiting for the last wicket in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland have added more than 50 runs and are still unbeaten. Tte hosts were 228/9 at the stumps on Day 4, with their overall lead touching the 333-run mark. Australia were 91/6 at one stage but a few important partnerships have put India under pressure.
Marnus Labuschagne (70), Pat Cummins (41) and Lyon (41 not out) batted smartly. Former India player Sunil Gavaskar has suggested two options to the Rohit Sharma-led team.
“The pitch looks good for batting and we haven’t seen uneven bounce over here. Look at the last pair of Australia, they were hardly troubled. India can take a leaf out of them and the batters should refrain themselves from playing risky shots.
“However, if India think that they can’t win the match, they should go for a draw,” he said on Star Sports.
Earlier, India posted 369 runs in their first innings in response to Australia”s 474. Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 114 runs in India’s first innings. The series is levelled 1-1, with India winning the series opener by 295 runs. Australia defeated the visitors by 10 wickets in the second game. The third game ended in a draw.
