Australian fans are gunning for Virat Kohli’s head since the day he shouldered Sam Konstas on Day 1 of the fourth Test at Melbourne. The youngster was blazing all guns when Kohli decided to take on him after the 10th over. He intentionally barged into the player, and the two exchanged a few words before the umpire and Usman Khawaja separated them.
Sam went on to score 60 runs off 65 balls in his debut innings, and the ICC fined Virat 20 percent of his match fee. The local fans did not spare the legendary batter throughout the Test, and the same treatment continued on the first day of the fifth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The moment he came out to bat to replace Yashasvi Jaiswal, the fans started booing the cricketer. The chants continued till Kohli reached the crease. Former England player Mark Nicholas didn’t like the reception given to one of the greatest batters of all time and slammed the fans for their behavior.
“I didn’t like Virat Kohli getting booed when he entered the playing area. I agreed he was wrong when he shouldered the young Australian cricketer, considering the fact that it was his first game, and with all the experience in the world, Virat should have avoided that. However, we can’t forget that Virat is one of the greatest ambassadors of Test cricket, and he deserves respect. You can’t do that with one of the greatest,” he said on Star Sports.
