Indian cricket star Shubman Gill recently opened up about his experience of batting alongside the legendary duo, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. In an episode of Disney+ Hotstar’s Inside Out with Gill, the Punjab cricketer spoke about the unique rhythm each partnership brings, describing his time batting with both veterans as an enjoyable experience.
“My approach to ODI cricket is a blend of what I’ve learned from both Rohit Bhai and Virat Bhai. When I’m batting with Rohit Bhai, our conversations are always straightforward. We focus on assessing the pitch, and depending on the situation, there are times when I find it easier to target certain bowlers, while at other times, it’s more comfortable for Rohit Bhai. This kind of understanding is crucial.”
“With Virat Bhai, it’s all about rotating the strike, finding singles, and keeping the tempo up that’s how he likes to stay involved in the game. Batting with both of them offers different experience, but it’s something I truly enjoy,” he added.
Since his international debut in 2019, Shubman Gill has quickly climbed the ranks, recently being named vice-captain of India’s ODI squad. With 4,886 runs in 101 matches across all formats and an impressive average of 42.85, Gill has firmly established himself as one of India’s most consistent players. His tally includes 24 fifties and 12 centuries, further underscoring his exceptional talent at the highest level.
In the opening match of the three-match ODI series against England on February 6 in Nagpur, India bowled first and restricted the visitors to 248 in 47.4 overs. Captain Jos Buttler (52) and Jacob Bethell (51) were the standout batters for England, while Ravindra Jadeja and Harshit Rana each claimed three wickets for India.
In reply, Shubman Gill played a match-winning knock of 87 runs off 96 balls to anchor India’s chase. Shreyas Iyer (59) and Axar Patel (52) also contributed with vital fifties as India chased down the target with ease, winning by four wickets and taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
