Delhi Capitals had a chance to post 200-plus runs against Chennai Super Kings, but two mistakes by the visiting team restricted them to 183/6 in 20 overs. The team management decided to send Sameer Rizvi above Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma, a decision that back-fired in the end. In the death overs, DC couldn’t add even 50 runs and lost a few wickets.
Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu slammed the decision-makers for keeping aggressive batters in the dugout and preferring a young cricketer over them.
“Ashutosh Sharma, the man in form, didn’t bat. He faced just 1 ball and was run out in a hurry. He scored a match-winning fifty in the first match against Lucknow Super Giants, but the management went to Rizvi. Stubbs didn’t get enough deliveries to make a difference. KL Rahul needed hard hitters to bat around him. If Stubbs and Ashutosh had batted together, the two have added 20 more runs to the team’s total.
“KL Rahul couldn’t provide finishing touches to the innings,” Nanjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports.
Rahul scored 77 runs off 51 balls, with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Rizvi managed 20 runs off 15, laced with 1 four and 1 six, while Stubbs posted an unbeaten 24 off 12. The South African batter smashed 2 boundaries and 1 six.
