Navjot Singh Sidhu was backing Chennai Super Kings for the game against Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk. However, the Men in Yellow not only disappointed him, but the margin of their defeat left the former player shell-shocked. He couldn’t believe that Chennai posted just 103 runs and lost the match by 8 wickets in 10.1 overs.
Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and invited the Super Kings to bat first. MS Dhoni would have batted first had the toss result gone in his favor, so the outcome of the coin flip can’t be taken as a reason for the humiliation of the home team at Chepauk.
For Sidhu, CSK batters played a T20 game like a Test match, with no intent to hit big shots during their batting. The batting collapse didn’t allow one of the powerhouses of the league to break free. It’s like death when you are humiliated, and your self-respect is lost. When you go down in your own eyes, it is the ultimate defeat. This is what happened with Chennai against Kolkata,” he said.
“KKR dropped two catches but still CSK scored just 103 runs in 20 overs. I haven’t seen Chennai posting a total like that at home. Their fortress at Chepauk has been demolished, and the team is looking clueless in the ongoing season,” he added.
Chennai Super Kings will be without their regular skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out due to an elbow injury. Although Dhoni has returned as a captain, the management hasn’t opted for a replacement for the injured player yet.
