Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of Mumbai Indians, addressed the concern regarding the fitness of their star batter, Suryakumar Yadav. He commented after MI’s thrilling 20-run victory over Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 Eliminator on Friday. The five-time champions will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 1.
Suryakumar Yadav, who has been a key part of MI’s batting this season, was seen receiving treatment from the physios during and after the game.
“I think these are just a few minor issues that can be managed with some bandaging and rest. I noticed some of the boys getting treatment,” Jayawardene said during the press conference.
Jayawardene acknowledged the challenging IPL schedule, which can lead to minor physical issues, but he dismissed any serious concerns about Suryakumar’s fitness.
“We’re aware of the demanding schedule, but everyone is in good health and fit. Don’t be concerned about these small niggles. I haven’t received any reports from the physios, and I’m confident that even if they had to play on one leg, these players would still give their all. So, don’t worry,” he added.
