Team India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the second Test of the ongoing five-match series against England. The match will be played at Edgbaston from July 2 to 6.
According to The Indian Express, the team management will rest the speedster to manage his workload. The right-arm seamer took five wickets in England’s first innings of the series opener at Headingley, Leeds.
He picked up his 14th five-wicket haul in the longest format of the game. However, he went wicketless in the second innings as England completed a 371-run chase with five wickets in hand to take a 1-0 lead.
The report mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah will be a part of the playing XI in the third Test at Lord’s from July 10 to 14.
Bumrah’s absence could impact the visiting team as he was their top performer with the ball in the first Test. Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are the two pace options, who can replace the 31-year-old bowler.
Meanwhile, former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin mentioned that Bumrah should play the second red-ball game to help the team in leveling the series.
“Bumrah should compete in the second Test to level the series and then he can take rest from the third game. Kuldeep Yadav should be added to the Playing XI,” he said.
