He scored a hundred in the first innings of the third Test, helping the hosts register a win by 22 runs to take a 2-1 lead. He has hit 37 Test hundreds so far and is looking forward to the remaining two red-ball games. The veteran spoke to Sanjana Ganesan after the Lord’s Test. When the presenter mentioned his track record against Bumrah, he said:
“You want to compete against the best in the world. He has taken my wicket 11 times as you just mentioned, but I have also scored hundreds in the matches he has been part of.”
“I scored another ton at Lord’s. When you play against the best bowler in the world, there is always a possibility of him dismissing you. You will have to find ways to nullify his threat and score runs,” he added.
Bumrah has played two five-day games so far, and he was rested from the second game to manage his workload. He will compete in one of the two upcoming games.
“It was pleasing to be on the right side of the result”: Joe Root
Former England captain Joe Root hailed his side’s victory in the Lord’s Test and credited the Indian team for taking the game deep.
“It is pleasing to be on the right side of the result. Credit to India for the way they played the game. Our bowlers bowled well on Day 5. It was a big effort from Shoaib Bashir, who bowled despite a broken hand. This series will still be competitive with two Tests to go,” he said.
