All auspicious activities are prohibited during Kharmas.
Kharmas will end after the Makar Sankranti (January 15) and then the auspicious works can be started without any apprehensions.
In Hindu tradition, careful consideration of auspicious timings is considered customary before embarking on any significant work. These works include marriages, embarking on a new business venture, purchasing a car, or others. As the new year 2024 has begun, the Sun is making a transit in the Sagittarius zodiac sign. During this time, Kharmas (one month that is considered inauspicious in the Hindu religion) is underway and hence all the auspicious activities are prohibited. Kharmas will end after the Makar Sankranti (January 15) and then the auspicious works can be started without any apprehensions. Dr Krishna Kumar Bhargava, a Tirupati-based astrologer has talked about the auspicious timings for starting new business ventures post the Kharmas period.

Post-March 13, the Kharmas period will again start from March 14 to April 13. After that, Dev Guru Jupiter will remain active from May 7 to June 6. This implies that you may experience a lack of motivation, a lack of confidence, and other problems as well. For the auspicious works, the planet Jupiter must remain in the ascendant state. Auspicious works cannot be performed when Jupiter sets. Some people embark on auspicious activities even in the Kharmas period because according to Panchang, Kharmas is not innately inauspicious. The caution against this period and commencing new ventures or engaging in auspicious activities stems from the belief that the Sun is weakened during its transition into Sagittarius. The Kharmas month is considered auspicious for performing pilgrimage.
