This pretty island is easily reachable from the UK and its beaches have been compared to the stunning coasts of Jamaica. Visitors say you won’t be disappointed if you take a trip to this beautiful part of Spain.
The smallest of the Balearic Islands, this place is the perfect holiday escape. Formentera is only accessible by ferry – you can choose from two ports on the mainland, Dénia or Barcelona. Or, if you want to make a trip to Ibiza too, you can also take the ferry over from there.
World Wide Travel Solutions has included the island on a list of beaches that rival the Caribbean.
It says: “Nestled in the Balearic Islands, Formentera is a hidden gem just a short ferry ride from Ibiza.
“With its crystalline waters and powdery white sands, Formentera’s beaches have a Caribbean feel with a European twist.
“Platja de Ses Illetes is the island’s crown jewel, where the water is so clear that boats appear to be floating.
“Whether you’re relaxing on the beach or enjoying fresh seafood at a beachside restaurant, Formentera is the perfect escape.”
One beach you can’t miss out on is Playa de Ses Illetes. A visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Caribbean sea, crystal clear water! A show! I had come years ago and I went back very gladly! And I’ll come back again.”
Another penned: “It’s THE beach. Listed as one of the best in the world, its crystal clear waters, fine sand and surroundings with some of the most exceptional beach bars on the Spanish coast make it undoubtedly worthy of five Stars.”
If you’re hoping to visit when it’s less busy, September to October is an ideal time to make the trip.
Lonely Planet recommends four or five days to fully explore the island and make the most of its beaches and everything it has to offer.
While some make a day trip from Ibiza, it is recommended to take a longer trip to the area rather than trying to cram everything into one day.
If you’re looking for somewhere to visit this autumn, this could be the perfect destination for you.
