India’s cricket team is preparing to take part in the 2025 Asia Cup, which kicks off on 9 September in Dubai. According to NDTV Sports, the team is scheduled to reach Dubai on 4 September. In a change from tradition, players will travel individually from their home cities instead of gathering in Mumbai before departing together, making travel arrangements more convenient.
The BCCI announced a 15-player squad led by Suryakumar Yadav, with Shubman Gill returning as the vice-captain.
“All players are expected to reach Dubai by the evening of 4 September, with the first net practice scheduled for 5 September at the ICC Academy. To make travel easier, players will be permitted to fly to Dubai from their cities,” a senior BCCI official said.
The tournament is in the T20 format. India’s most recent limited-overs tournament was the 2025 Champions Trophy, which also took place in Dubai, where they defeated New Zealand in the final to claim the title.
“Of course, some players will travel from Mumbai. It is not practical to call others to Mumbai just to catch a flight. The flight to Dubai is much shorter than most other international trips,” the official explained.
India will face the UAE in their opening match on 10 September. Their group stage schedule also features games against Pakistan on 14 September and Oman on 19 September, followed by the Super Four rounds.
