Former MI and CSK batter Ambati Rayudu has revealed that Ruturaj Gaikwad would be future captain of the Chennai Super Kings. With this Ambati ignored the name of star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Dhoni is most likely to retire after the Indian Premier League 2024, having guided CSK to their fifth IPL championship this year. He is already forty-two years old, and in the upcoming months, his future may be called into question because of fitness concerns.
From the beginning of the IPL, Dhoni has led CSK. He only gave Jadeja the captaincy prior to the start of the IPL 2022, but after losing six of eight games, Jadeja resigned, and Dhoni took over leadership once more.
However, as Dhoni’s playing days are coming to an end, CSK are searching for players who can take over as captain of the team. Six-time IPL winner Rayudu believes that Gaikwad should take over as captain of CSK after Dhoni.
Speaking on the BeerBiceps YouTube channel, when Rayudu was asked about CSK’s future after Dhoni, the former India batter who announced his retirement from IPL after winning the title this year said, “I think, ideally, it should be Rutu. He is the best candidate. But let’s see.”
The 26-year-old Gaikwad made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings in 2020. After scoring 635 runs in 16 games in 2021, he emerged as the tournament’s top run scorer. His contributions to CSK’s two title victories in 2021 and 2023 were significant, and following his strong performance in the 2021 IPL, the franchise decided to retain him ahead of the mega auction in 2022.
The cricketer from Maharashtra, who has represented India in T20 and ODI formats, has so far played 52 IPL matches for CSK, amassing 1797 runs at an average of 39.07.
