Team India’s star all-rounder Shivam Dube produced another match-winning performance on Sunday during the second T20I against Afghanistan in Indore. Coming to bat at the No. 4 slot, he scored an unbeaten 63 off 32 balls, as India completed the chase of 173 in 15.4 overs. The 30-year-old player also took a wicket. In the first match in Mohali, Dube amassed 60 not out and added 1 wicket to his tally.
On January 14, Dube played another remarkable innings, ensuring he finished the game for his side after Rohit Sharma (0) and Virat Kohli (29) were dismissed. He stitched a 92-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal (64), taking the game away from Afghanistan.
Dube’s career has been on the rise since he started playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022. In 16 matches, he accumulated 418 runs in IPL 2023, thus playing a key role in CSK’s fifth IPL title.
Following his recent knock for India in the second T20I, Dube credited MS Dhoni, and other staff members of the Chennai-based franchise for his success.
“This credit goes to the CSK and Mahi bhai. I always had the game, but CSK gave me confidence to bring out the best. They told me that I could score runs against any team. Michael Hussey and Stephen Fleming showed faith in me,” Dube said on JioCinema.
“MS Dhoni told me that I can be a good batter but I will have to be smart with my shot selection. I started focusing on my limitations and where I could be beneficial as a player,” he added.
Dube is one of the leading contenders to play for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
