The cricket world has been abuzz with speculation surrounding the future of India’s wicket-keeper batter, Ishan Kishan, ever since he decided to opt out of the Test series against South Africa in December 2022 due to ‘personal reasons.’ This hiatus has left fans and experts alike pondering the impact on his career, particularly with the T20 World Cup looming on the horizon.
While concerns lingered about Kishan’s absence from the national side, a recent report from Dainik Bhaskar has shed light on his comeback plans.
According to the report, Ishan Kishan is gearing up to make a return to competitive cricket by participating in the DY Patil T20 tournament in Mumbai. This move strategically positions the young cricketer as a stepping stone before he puts on the Mumbai Indians jersey in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, has been vocal about the necessity for Kishan to prove his form and fitness in domestic cricket before making a national team comeback. Despite Dravid’s stance, the Jharkhand Cricket Association clarified that Ishan Kishan did not approach them to play in the Ranji Trophy, which raised eyebrows within the cricketing fraternity.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in response to the ongoing debate surrounding Kishan’s reluctance to participate in the Ranji Trophy, has issued a firm mandate. Fit players who are not part of international assignments or undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy are expected to actively contribute to their respective Ranji Trophy teams.
In the latest development sources within the board announced that the players who wish to play the IPL must play a few games of the Ranji Trophy. This directive puts Kishan in a challenging position, as he remains steadfast in his decision to participate in the domestic T20 tournament. Since departing from the South Africa tour due to mental fatigue, Ishan Kishan has not featured in any competitive cricket matches, raising concerns about his match readiness.
Fans, selectors, and cricket enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating Kishan’s performance in the DY Patil T20 tournament, where he intends to showcase his form and preparedness for the upcoming IPL season. As the T20 World Cup looms on the horizon, the journey to redemption for the young wicket-keeper batter will undoubtedly attract scrutiny from all quarters.
