Legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag complimented Chennai Super Kings for their outstanding fielding efforts against Gujarat Titans at Chepauk Stadium. Senior player Ajinkya Rahane made a fabulous catch to dismiss David Miller, while Rachin Ravindra contributed a few good catches.
However, the highlight was a stunning one-handed catch by 42-year-old legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who dived 2.7 meters to his right to dismiss Vijay Shankar and thrill the Chepauk crowd.
The cricketing world was amazed by Dhoni’s athleticism at his age, as his former India teammate Sehwag also commented on it with a playful jab, referring to him as ‘buzurg’ (old man).
Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz, “Catches win matches. Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra both took good catches. Even the buzurg (old man) MS Dhoni took a good catch.”
Rohan Gavaskar, who was also part of the discussion, instantly replied, “You didn’t call Rahane as ‘elderly’.”
Sehwag backed his claim by saying there is a significant age difference between Rahane and Dhoni.
“Rahane is younger and more fit at 35 years old compared to Dhoni. There is a noticeable gap between someone in their mid-30s versus early 40s. At 41, Dhoni is clearly getting older and less physically capable.” said Sehwag.
In his first time captaining CSK this season, Ruturaj Gaikwad was pleased with his team’s fielding.
“I’m also impressed with our fielding this year,” he added. “We have one or two talented youngsters, and Jinks took a top catch, sprinting from end to end even during the last game. Our excellent fielding has been a huge plus point for us.”
Chennai’s upcoming fixture is against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, March 13.
