Prithvi Shaw was the talk of the town when he made his debut for India. He scored a hundred on his Test debut against the West Indies and was called next Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Brian Lara by many. However, he failed miserably and currently doesn’t feature in the national team.
He was also dropped from the Ranji Trophy team of Mumbai and was ignored by the IPL franchises in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Despite keeping his base price at INR 75 lakh, he wasn’t given a bid.
Sachin spoke to him in 2020 when he was involved in doping. He was urged to be disciplined. Sachin knew what happened with his close friend Vindo Kambli.
Delhi Capitals gave Prithvi several chances because the franchise’s Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly, showed trust in the batter. Ganguly even let him down and was released by the team before the auction. Rahul Dravid was the head coach of the India U-19 team when Shaw led the team to a win in the World Cup. Dravid helped him grow as a batter.
A former BCCI selector has revealed that Shaw ignored the suggestions of Sachin, Dravid, and Ganguly.
“Prithvi Shaw was with Delhi Capitals and he got a chance to speak to Rahul Dravid, Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly. Sachin also had a word with him as they both play for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Are they fools? There is no change in him,” the selector told PTI.
Shaw last played for India National Cricket Team more than three years ago. He was added to the team just once after that against New Zealand in 2022 but didn’t get a game. He scored 379 against Assam in the Ranji Trophy and posted decent scores for Northamptonshire in the One-Day Cup last year. When it seemed Shaw was getting back, he was impacted by an injury.
Since his return, the right-handed batter has looked bad and is currently struggling in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
