Overview:
The previous record was set by England’s Vikram Solanki and Marcus Trescothick, who shared a 200-run partnership for the first wicket.
Australia’s top order was magnificent in the third and final ODI against South Africa on Sunday. Choosing to bat first, openers Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh took full advantage of a weakened South African bowling attack, posting a big opening partnership. The pair added 250 runs, narrowly missing out on the Australian record for the highest opening stand by just 34 runs. This partnership now stands as the highest ever opening stand against South Africa, breaking a 22-year-old record.
The previous record was set by England’s Vikram Solanki and Marcus Trescothick, who shared a 200-run partnership for the first wicket. Before them, India’s legendary pair of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar had put together 193 runs in 2001 against South Africa.
