India are in Australia for the five-Test series, starting from November 22 in Perth. The BCCI had earlier called off the intra-squad match between India and India A due to the workload management of the players.
However, after facing criticism from former players, the apex body of Indian cricket has decided to go ahead with the warm-up game at the WACA in Perth on Friday. However, the Board Control of Cricket India has imposed a curfew-like rule, banning from watching the proceedings.
According to a report in The West Australian, India will be engaged in a three-day intra-squad game, but the BCCI has put the stadium under complete lockdown.
The Optus Stadium has already been covered with black traps to prevent fans from watching the team’s training sessions. Ground staff members are not allowed to use their mobiles.
Virat Kohli, who was the first Indian player to arrive in Australia, skipped the training session on Tuesday. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin also stayed away from the nets. KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant batted in the session.
Rahul and Yashasvi could open the innings in the series opener in Perth, as Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the contest for personal reasons.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir refused to reveal Rohit’s availability for the series. He is also open to playing KL Rahul or Abhimanyu Easwaran as an opener along with Jaiswal.
