The BCCI will punish Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant despite his team’s 12-run win over Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2025. His franchise was guilty of not completing the 20 overs on time, and the skipper was allowed to place four fielders instead of five outside the 30-yard circle. He will be fined INR 12 lakh for the first slow over rate offence of the team.
The decision-makers have scrapped the policy of banning a captain if his team fails to complete overs on time in three matches of the season. Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians was the last leader to face the sanctions. Meanwhile, the bowling changes and the field placements played a big role in Lucknow’s slow over rate.
Rishabh tried to copy MS Dhoni to avoid the sanction, but he failed. Mahi has a habit of running from one end to another after the completion of the over to avoid wasting time. However, Rishabh couldn’t achieve the desired result despite trying hard.
The umpires will bring up the sanctions, and the match referee will announce the punishment. It is a level 1 offence. The decision of the referee is final and binding.
Pant is also battling poor form, with four failures in the first four matches in the cash-rich league.
