Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was pleased with the way his team played against Kolkata Knight Riders. It was a perfect game for the visiting team as they clinched a 39-run win to reach 12 points from eight games in the 18th season of the tournament. After scoring 198/3 in 20 overs, Gujarat restricted the defending champions to 159/8.
Gill and Sai Sudharsan added 103 runs for the first wicket, which proved to be the difference in the end. Shubman was named the Player of the Match for scoring 90 runs off 55 balls, with the help of 10 fours and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Sai added 52 runs off 36 deliveries and is now the Orange Cap holder. The final touches were given by Jos Buttler, who accumulated 41 runs off 23 balls.
Terrific bowling by Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan didn’t allow the KKR batters to bat aggressively. They took two wickets each in a one-sided contest.
“I am very pleased with the outcome. We knew the last two matches were going to decide where we stand in the tournament, and I am happy to win both. We want to play our best cricket and contribute.
“We were ahead in the game, but closing a game is different that is why I celebrated aggressively when Sai Kishore dismissed Venkatesh Iyer. We have to cut down on unnecessary errors and we are capable of doing it,” Shubman Gill said.
