Sanju Samson has credited Gautam Gambhir for his recent success in T20Is. The right-handed batter has hit two consecutive hundreds. However, AB de Villiers refused to accept Samson’s comment.
While De Villiers said that he doesn’t want to disrespect any coaches, he mentioned that Samson has become more mature now.
Sanju became the first Indian batter to score back-to-back tons after he reached the three-figure mark in the first game against South Africa.
His maiden century came against Bangladesh in the previous three-match series. Playing as an opener in Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s absence, Samson has been unstoppable.
Nevertheless, the former South Africa captain reckons the coaching staff doesn’t deserves credit for Samson ‘s magnificent display.
“Sanju has changed the gear and I hope the selectors are looking at him for all the formats of the game. He is an all-format player. Samson is a special player, who can achieve success in all conditions worldwide. I doubt that the coaching staff has any role in his brilliant batting,” AB de Villiers said.
“I don’t want to disrespect Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman, Morne Morke and Ryan ten Doeschate. I feel this guy has become more mature and has realised the importance of giving consistent performances.”
Samson was also part of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 winning squad but was benched. Before the two T20I centuries, he had scored two fifties.
