Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are facing massive flak after the team’s failure in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The sub-continent team failed to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship after losing 1-3 to Australia. Earlier, New Zealand whitewashed India by 3-0 in India, making it the first instance in the history of Indian cricket.
Indian captain Rohit scored 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.1 against the Pat Cummins-led team. Virat Kohli scored a century in the first innings of the series opener in Perth but failed to touch even a fifty-run mark in the remaining innings. He accumulated 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.95. Gautam Gambhir hasn’t been impressive as a head coach, with the team struggling to maintain consistency.
Despite the pressure on the big three, a report by news agency IANS claimed that no action will be taken against Gambhir, Rohit, and Virat. There will be a review meeting by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, but no one will be fired.
“There will be a review meeting without any action. You can’t remove a coach for the poor performances of the batters. Gambhir will remain Team India’s coach, and Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play a Test series in England, ” a BCCI source told IANS. The Men in Blue will now focus on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
