Jasprit Bumrah can’t be kept away from action in any format of the game. The right-arm speedster scripted Mumbai’s comeback when other bowlers had already given up in front of Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar. The five-time champions were losing the steam and the coaches were panicking from the dugout. The suggestions were flying thick and fast, with leadership group under pressure. Bumrah had to stop head coach Mahela Jayawardene and captain Hardik Pandya from giving him a pep talk and bluntly told them to let him finish his job.
Hardik’s field placements were rejected by Jasprit and the senior pro got what he wanted. The result was instant as Washington couldn’t handle his unplayable Yorker and was sent back on an individual score of 48. Bumrah had done irreparable damage and there was not way the Titans were coming back.
In his last and GT’s 18th over, the 31-year-old was again spot on and took the game out of Gujarat’s reach. Chasing 229 runs, Shubman’s team managed 208 runs, with Bumrah conceding just 27 runs from his four overs.
Aakash Chopra, who has been a long time admirer of the pacer, called Bumrah the best in the world. “When nothing his happening, you can introduce Jasprit Bumrah. You can watch his Yorker to Washington Sundar on a loop. He is a Brahmastra and a genius. There is no one like him. God doesn’t make players like him anymore,” Aakash Chopra said on Star Sports.
After missing a few games due to his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, Bumrah returned to Mumbai’s team and started winning matches. He was retained for INR 18 crore. In 11 contests this season, he has taken 18 wickets at an average of 15.33 and an economy of 6.36.
