He also expressed hope that Mukesh would be chosen for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is set to be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28.
Sourav Ganguly, former India captain, has praised Mukesh Kumar, acknowledging his exceptional bowling skills and ability to perform across all formats. Despite impressing with India A, the 31-year-old Mukesh was left out of the Test squad for the upcoming five-match series against England.
Mukesh impressed in his only unofficial Test match against England Lions at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury, where he claimed three wickets. However, he was unable to secure a place in the squad, not even as a potential injury replacement. A few days before the first Test, Mukesh posted a message on Instagram stating, “Karma bides its time. You will always have to watch out. Karma is unforgiving and always gets payback.”
Ganguly pointed out that Mukesh’s consistent domestic performances should earn him more chances at the international level.
“Mukesh should undoubtedly play. Given the conditions, he’s a highly effective fast bowler. He consistently takes wickets in domestic cricket and has earned the opportunity,” Ganguly said in an exclusive interview with India Today.
He also expressed hope that Mukesh would be chosen for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is set to be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28.
“Since there’s no Test cricket at the moment, we’ll have to wait and see if he gets selected for the T20Is or the Asia Cup. He is a bowler capable of thriving in all formats. His chance will come, and he simply needs to remain patient,” Ganguly added.
