Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, met the Men in Blue in the dressing room after the World Cup final setback in Ahmedabad. He spoke to players, support staff and even hugged Mohammed Shami.
He told players to remain positive despite facing defeat. However, his visit was questioned by political parties.
Former India player Ravi Shastri lauded the Prime Minister for motivating the Indian players.
“I think it’s an outstanding thing to talk to players because I know what a dressing room atmosphere is like after losing a big match. I was with the Indian team for seven years. It breaks your heart when you fail to cross the final hurdle. It is a big thing for players to see the Prime Minister of the country walking into the dressing room. He is no ordinary man and his words can lift the spirits of the players,” he said.
