Chennai Super Kings’ season is over in the Indian Premier League 2025. The team has lost seven matches while winning just two. The most alarming part has been their four defeats at home, with only one win coming against the Mumbai Indians. All the senior batters are out of form and have become walking wickets. Barring Khaleel Ahmed and Noor Ahmad, other bowlers are leaking runs. R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been the most disappointing ones.
In the recent contest against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dewald Brevis, their new signing, was the only positive from the batting unit. He scored 42 runs off 25 balls, including 4 sixes and 1 four.
CSK signed the 21-year-old South African cricketer as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis joined the five-time champions for INR 2.2 crore. He had joined the team a week ago but was given a debut against Hyderabad at Chepauk. Former Super Kings player Ambati Rayudu called him the signing of the season. He mentioned that Dewald will represent CSK for a long time in the IPL.
“He is the catch of the season. Dewald Brevis will give his services to CSK for years. He is a match-winner,” Rayudu said.
Chennai captain MS Dhoni also lauded the young batter. “Dewald Brevis batted well in the middle orders, and this is what you need from other batters. We haven’t been able to dominate spinners in the middle phase of the match, and we will have to improve in this area. If your players are not performing, you have to look for changes,” MS Dhoni said.
Chennai will have to sign a lot of players in the mini-auction to start winning matches. The current squad is home to aging stars, and their presence is hampering the team’s display.
