Yashasvi Jaiswal played one of the best innings by an Indian batter in Test cricket. The southpaw impressed AB de Villiers, who called him an exceptional talent.
The young batsman was the only one out of the 22 players, who looked comfortable at the crease. He scored a well compiled 209 runs off 290 balls in the first innings. His 19 fours and 7 sixes took India to 396 after Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first.
Yashasvi stitched important partnerships with several teammates but none of them went on to a play big innings.
ABD was mighty pleased with Yashasvi. “He looks from a different planet (Alien). Yashasvi getting a fantastic double hundred this morning. What a talented prospect he is for cricket in India,” AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
“He is a fantastic player. He makes the game look easy. Jaiswal makes the pace bowlers look like they are bowling medium pace and he always puts the spinners under pressure. What an incredible start to his career and we are going to see a lot of this guy in the future.
“I am a big fan of him since I first saw him play 18 months ago. I noticed something special in him. What a fantastic player, what a great double hundred,” AB de Villiers added.
Good start to Test career
Yashasvi hit 171 runs on his Test debut in 2023. Playing in the opening game of the two-match series against the West Indies, he smashed a daddy hundred. Although he didn’t do much in two Test matches against South Africa, the knock against England in the opening Test gave him a belief that he belongs to the big stage.
He scored 80 runs off 74 balls in the first innings of the opening Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. He amassed just 15 in the second and the host nation lost the contest by 28 runs.
Learning from his mistakes, the Mumbai-based batter made bowlers looked helpless and completed his maiden double ton.
