Former Royal Challengers Bangalore player AB de Villiers is surprised that his former franchise retained Dinesh Karthik, who had a below-par last season. In 13 games, the wicket-keeper batter scored 140 runs at an average of 11.66.
There were speculations that he would be released, but the management went with him for one more season.
“I am surprised that Dinesh Karthik was retained. He was not among the runs last season. I think he can play for two more years and is a fantastic cricketer. However, I was expecting RCB to free their purse and go for a young wicket-keeper as there are plenty who can be targeted,” AB de Villiers.
ABD was also not pleased with the release of the bowlers.
“Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood have been released. These three won many games for the team.. Especially, Hazlewood is a bowler who could have hold up RCB bowling line-up together. This is another surprising move for me,” he added.
RCB haven’t won an IPL title since the inception of the league.
