Jasprit Bumrah is ready to support the new Test captain, Shubman Gill. The veteran speedster discussed his bonding with Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Speaking to SKY Sports, Bumrah also revealed that he refused to take Test captaincy due to workload management issues.
Bumrah enjoys a great relationship with Shubman Gill and is open to giving ideas when needed. However, he feels a leader should be allowed to work freely instead of being bombarded with ideas.
“You must be there for the player, but let him decide independently. I don’t want to be in his ear all the time. This is how I play cricket. I want the person to be free about how he wants to operate. He is young and energetic and has his thought process,” Jasprit Bumrah told Dinesh Karthik.
“I will always be there for him when he needs anything,” he added. Bumrah said that head coach Gautam Gambhir must work hard with the young players. The current team completely differs from the previous squad that played in England.
Gautam Gambhir will have to be patient with the players: Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah mentioned that Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style is individualistic. He likes to speak to every player instead of assembling the cricketers in one group.
“He will have to be calm and patient with the players. Gambhir is calm in his approach, and the players feel happy,” he said.
“He likes to talk to everyone. He believes in one-on-one chats with the players. He is handling the transition phase of Indian cricket. Our team was completely different earlier, but is now full of young players.”
