The media is full of headlines about Gautam Gambhir’s dressing down following the team’s 184-run defeat in the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne. According to reports, the head coach was furious and threatened players with serious consequences if they didn’t follow his instructions. Gautam said that he had enough and mentioned that the players had taken his silence for granted.
He was asked about his conversation on the eve of the fifth Test. He refuted claims of unrest but mentioned that such talks should remain in the dressing room. It was also mentioned that Rishabh Pant was singled out for his reckless shot on Day 5 of the Boxing DayTest.
Former Australia player Justin Langer refused to accept the reports, calling them rubbish.
“I don’t buy this rubbish as we don’t know what happened in the dressing room. You will never hear it from the players as the talks are personal and private. I don’t think it has anything to do with the way Rishabh played on that day,” he said.
“The players are expected to respect the conditions and situations and play accordingly and there was a lapse of concentration from Rishbah in the fourth innings. He should have stayed on after doing all the hard work,” he added.
The southpaw hasn’t been able to set the stage on fire in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
