England batter Harry Brook has pulled out of the IPL 2024 because his grandmother passed away in February and he wants to be with his family.
“I have decided to skip the upcoming Indian Premier League. I was looking forward to playing for Delhi Capitals. I know there is no need to share the person reason behind my decision but there will be many people asking why. So I am sharing it.
“I lost my grandmother last month. She was my rock and I have lived in her home for a long time. My love for the game and the attitude towards the life was shaped by her and my late grandfather. There was a hardly a day when I didn’t she her. I am happy that she she saw me playing cricket for England. I am proud that she remembered some of my awards.”
Brook had pulled out of the five-Test series against India. He was with the team in the pre-tour camp in the UAE but left left it due to personal reason.
“I didn’t travel to India because I was informed that my grandmother was ill and didn’t have long time left. Now that she is no more, I need to be with my family members. Nothing is more important to me than my family. I know my decision is likely to surprise many but I am young and have many years of cricket left in me. My family needs me,” he added.
Brook made his IPL debut in the 2023 season after Sunrisers Hyderabad paid INR 13.25 crore for his services. However, he was released by the franchise after one season as he scored just 190 runs in 11 matches.
