Former England player Nick Knight has heaped massive praise on Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, saying India should be proud of how debutants have performed in the third Test.
Sarfaraz and Jurel made their Test debuts at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Sarfaraz was given his Test cap by Anil Kumble, while Jurel received his Test cap from Dinesh Karthik.
Speaking to JioCinema, Knight said Jurel batted well and India should be proud of the two debutants. Jurel scored 46 and added important runs with Ravichandran Ashwin to take the host nation past 400 runs on Day 2.
“India have got two players on debut and the team should be proud of them. Sarfaraz was excellent yesterday and Jurel has shown his class today. He looked terrific,” Nick Knight said.
He went on to say that Jurel batted according to the situation and stitched an important partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin after India lost Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja on Day 2.
“India were in trouble when Dhruv Jurel came out to bat. He played brilliantly and found a way to score runs. He was playing in his debut Test and joined hands with Ashwin to add runs. I think this boy can play,” Knight added.
Sarfaraz smashed 62 runs off 66 balls on Day 1. The 26-year-old hit 8 boundaries and a solitary six. Sarfaraz registered the second-fastest Test half-century for India, getting to the milestone off just 48 deliveries.
Meanwhile, India were bowled out for 445 runs, with Mark Wood taking 4 wickets.
