Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will meet in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to pick India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The discussion will revolve around the selection of Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill. According to The Indian Express, Sanju Samson, who is in magnificent touch in the Indian Premier League 2024, is not guaranteed a spot as the team management has requested a wicket-keeper who can fit in the lower order as the team has a top-heavy batting line-up.
Dhruv Jurel and Jitesh Sharma have come back into contention with this demand, with KL Rahul to miss out. It remains to be seen if the selectors change their stance when the members meet with the captain and coach on Tuesday and if they find a way to include Gill or Samson.
Agarkar met with India captain Rohit Sharma on Saturday before the Mumbai Indians’ match against Delhi Capitals. Rohit will join the meeting via video conference from Lucknow as he is in the city to take on the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants.
Rishabh Pant will be the number one wicket-keeper in the global tournament. Despite KL Rahul and Sanju Samson’s exceptional run in the cash-rich league, the wise men don’t want another top-order batter to travel with the team. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be the top three batters.
The selectors are not willing to accommodate Shubman Gill in the 15-member team.
