Punjab Kings haven’t performed well in the Indian Premier League. However, Shashank Singh had a good season with the franchise earlier this year. He scored 354 runs in 14 games at an average of 44.25. The batter played many explosive knocks and even won a game against Gujarat Titans.
There were reports that Punjab Kings would retain Shashank as an uncapped player.
However, the right-handed batter has removed the Punjab Kings’ name from his Instagram bio, and his latest bio reads, “Professional Cricketer.” Previously, he wrote Punjab’s name.
Now, this raises a question on his future with the Punjab-based franchise. According to BCCI’s new rule, a franchise can retain two uncapped players for INR 4 crore reach.
Shashank Singh had a strike rate of 164.65 in IPL 2024. His top score of 68 runs came against Kolkata Knight Riders.
In the match against Gujarat Titans, he scored 61 runs to help Punjab chase down a target of 200 runs.
Earlier, Shashank Singh spoke to InsideSport and revealed that if he is not retained by Punjab Kings, several other franchises are in the tournament, and he just wants to play in the IPL.
“I can’t say anything about my future with Punjab as it is not in my hands. It would be good to play for them but there are a lot of other good teams apart from Punjab.”
Punjab Kings bought him for INR 20 lakh before IPL 2024. The franchise was targeting another player with the same name but bid for the wrong Shashank. They wanted to take their bid back but were not allowed. They had to keep Shashank Singh. After a lot of backlash on social media, Punjab Kings changed their stance and said they got the player they were looking for.
