Rohit Sharma is on the verge of making history in IPL 2025, as he is just 372 runs away from becoming the second batsman to score 7000 runs in the league’s history. Having been a fixture in the IPL since his debut in 2008, Rohit will play his 18th season in 2025. He has been an integral part of Mumbai Indians (MI), having captained the team to five IPL titles. Despite MI appointing Hardik Pandya as the captain, Rohit has been retained by the franchise ahead of the 2025 mega-auction.
Rohit began his IPL career with Deccan Chargers, where he played from 2008 to 2010. In the 2011 IPL auction, Mumbai Indians bought him, and he became the team’s captain in 2013. Under his leadership, MI clinched five IPL titles and one Champions League title. The team enjoyed a dominant run, securing back-to-back IPL victories in 2019 and 2020, matching Chennai Super Kings’ achievement of two consecutive title wins in 2010 and 2011.
In the IPL’s all-time run-scoring list, Rohit currently sits third with 6628 runs, which include two centuries and 43 half-centuries. Virat Kohli holds the top spot with 8004 runs, and Shikhar Dhawan is second with 6769 runs. By scoring 372 runs in the 2025 season, Rohit is set to join the elite 7000-run club, becoming only the second player to do so.
Along with Rohit and Hardik Pandya, MI has retained key players like Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav. Rohit, as the longest-serving player for MI, looks set to finish his IPL career with the franchise. His consistent performances over the years have made him one of the league’s most respected and successful players.
