Former Australia fast bowler Ryan Harris has slammed Sunil Gavaskar for his statement on Josh Hazlewood‘s absence from the second Test against India. The legendary Indian batter has said that there is a rift between the Australian players and Hazelwood was not injured but dropped for taking a dig at the batters in the first Test at the Optus Stadium. Hazelwood suffered a side strain after the series opener but Gavaskar refused to buy it.
Hazlewood’s comment on Day 3 of the contest in Perth led to speculations that players were not on the same page in the dressing room. Josh urged media to question the batters about the strategy of chasing down the 534.
In his column for the Sportstar, Gavaskar wrote about the tension in the rivals dressing and that he is enjoying it, with Hazlewood’s mysterious injury enough to confirm the unrest stories.
Ryan Harris mentioned that Hazlewood’s comments were not controversial and talks of the rifts and groups happens in India but not in Australia.
“There are no groups and such statements are garbage. I heard what Sunil Gavaskar said. It is all rubbish. I know it happens in India but not in Australia,” he told The Indian Express.
“Players don’t play politics and you can’t leave out a player for his statement. All the players are aware of how our media works. It was blown out of proportion because we lost badly against India. But it happens in sports,” he added.
