MS Dhoni is all set to lead Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2024, starting March 22. The 42-year-old is preparing hard in the pre season camp ahead of the first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on the opening day of the new season. Kumble, who shared the dressing room with Dhoni, has revealed an interesting story regarding the most successful Indian captain.
Kumble said that Dhoni was the first player to lift him. Kumble also became Team India’s head coach when Dhoni was the captain. “I never played with MS Dhoni in the IPL. He was the first person to lift me up during our times with the Indian team. He was the strongest of the lot to lift a heavyweight like me. When I was the coach of the Indian team, he was leading the side. We had a match in Ranchi and there was an optional training session. He could have easily skipped it but the skipper came to the ground. When I asked him about the reason behind his presence, he said that he wanted to be around. That is MS Dhoni for you,” Anil Kumble said.
Kumble compared MS Dhoni with Sachin Tendulkar. “Sachin was the same. When I was the coach of the Mumbai Indians, he was the first one to come to the ground on the optional practice days. They both are same. You can’t keep them away from cricket and they don’t even need breaks. Don’t be surprised if MS doesn’t retire after the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League and continues to represent Chennai Super Kings,” he added.
