Aakash Chopra said that the Mumbai Indians need to add a quality spinner to the side. The five-time champions are likely to go after Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
MI have retained five capped players for the 18th season of the tournament. Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Tilak Varma will continue to play for the team.
“Their batting is looking strong once again. They have only retained one fast bowler and need more. Mumbai can’t depend on their batting line-up in every game. They might go for the overseas bowlers in the auction. They will target Chahal but I am not sure whether they will get him. Washington Sundar is another option,” they said.
In 15 innings in IPL 2024, Yuzi took 18 wickets and was the second-highest wicket-taker of Rajasthan Royals.
Aakash feels Mumbai also needs to add a wicketkeeper to the team. He named Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock, Jitesh Sharma, and Phil Salt as potential options.
“They will go after Ishan but won’t get him. Quinton de Kock is also an option but they need someone like Phil Salt as he can open the batting. Jitesh is also there.”
Bumrah took 20 wickets in 13 matches for Mumbai Indians in the previous season,
