India failed to turn up against New Zealand. The three-match Test series exposed the weaknesses of the sub-continent team, with batters giving up easily on turning tracks. Even their performance on the seaming pitch in Bengaluru was ordinary.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan hailed the Kiwis for thumping India in the challenging and tough conditions.
After losing to Sri Lanka 0-2, New Zealand were labelled as below-par rivals in front of India for three contests. On the other hand, India were fresh from a 2-0 win over Bangladesh.
However, New Zealand managed to stun the Rohit Sharma-led team with proper planning. In the opening game, India were bowled out for 46 in their first innings, their lowest total at home. The visitors won the game by 8 wickets.
Mitchell Santner took 13 wickets in Pune as New Zealand registered a 113-run victory. When it looked like India are likely to win the Mumbai game, the Kiwi bowlers got together and put the opponents on the back foot.
India were 92/6 while chasing 147, with Rishabh Pant unbeaten on 53 runs off 50 balls. The score was 29/5 at one stage.
“New Zealand are on the verge of arguably one of the greatest if not the greatest series win of all time,” Michael Vaughan wrote on X.
