Delhi Capitals had a chance of winning their fifth match on the trot until the 19th over, but a hat-trick of three run-outs restricted them to 193 while chasing 206. Ashutosh Sharma (17), Kuldeep Yadav (1), and Mohit Sharma (0) departed on the last three deliveries of the 19th over. Ashutosh had hit Jasprit Bumrah for two successive boundaries on the second and the third balls, but his needless attempt for a second run on the fourth delivery ended his innings and ultimately played a role in Delhi’s loss.
However, former player Navjot Singh Sidhu refused to accept the three suicidal attempts as the turning point of the match.
“Three run-outs were not responsible for Delhi’s defeat. Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel were taking the game away. But when the wet ball was changed, Mumbai staged a comeback. Rohit Sharma, Maheja Jayawardene, and Paras Mhambrey had a long discussion, and then it was decided to bring spinners from both ends.
“The new ball showed its impact with KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs heading back to the dressing room. For me, this was the turning point of the match,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said on the broadcasting channel.
Mumbai Indians have four points from six matches while Delhi Capitals have accumulated 8 points from five games.
