After India secured a dominant six-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in their Champions Trophy Group A match, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja expressed his dissatisfaction with the quality of the game in Dubai. Chasing a target of 242, India comfortably won with 35 balls to spare, thanks to a masterful century from Virat Kohli.
Sharing his disappointment about the one-sided match, Jadeja said on The DP World Dressing Room Show on Ten Sports, “Of course, I’m proud of my team, but I’m not happy today. You want to see a good, competitive game. Yes, we want our countries and teams to win, but I’m honestly disappointed with the overall game. There was no contest.”
“Aside from the toss, what did you actually win? You didn’t even manage to win hearts. Sure, you can win or lose matches, but even in defeat, there’s a moment where you earn respect. Pakistan couldn’t even achieve that,” Jadeja remarked.
Jadeja also criticized Pakistan’s batting strategy, pointing out their high percentage of dot balls and sluggish scoring rate.
“India lost just four wickets. Take a look at those last four. The first one was a clean bowled by Shaheen to Rohit. The second (Shubman Gill) was a ball that spun sharply. The third (Shreyas Iyer) needed an outstanding catch. The fourth (Hardik Pandya) was the only bouncer bowled in the entire innings. Those four deliveries were the only good moments for Pakistan. I’m sorry if I’m emphasizing it,” Jadeja added.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram, who was on the show as well, responded lightheartedly, saying, “No… it’s fine. You’ve got to rub on it.”
